Fiscal amnesty/Tobacco: The European Commission has asked the government to

Democratic MP Jorida Tabaku stated today that the European Commission has sent official comments to the Albanian government and has asked it to withdraw from the "fiscal peace" initiative and fiscal agreements.

She described the bill as a lobbyist and sponsored initiative, drafted in her opinion for the interests of a certain group of companies that aim to legalize their profits. According to the Democratic MP, the law is unconstitutional, creates space for money laundering, violates fair competition and discourages future tax payments.

Tabaku demanded full transparency from the Ministry of Finance, by making public the list of entities that benefit from debt forgiveness and any agreements related to fiscal peace.

The MP added that the opposition has prepared several amendments to limit the damage that it believes this initiative will cause, if the government does not withdraw. Tabaku described this as just one of 17 laws lobbied and sponsored in Parliament, which she said endanger the European integration process and Albania's obligations to fight money laundering.

" We started the day today with a statement from the American Chamber of Commerce on the government's withdrawal from the Fiscal Peace Act and the Fiscal Compact. I was in Brussels these two days where, in meetings with the commission, I can tell you with full responsibility that the commission has sent the Albanian government comments on the law and has asked the Albanian government to withdraw."

The Fiscal Peace Law is a lobbied law, it is a sponsored law, it is a law that is made in the interest of certain companies that want to legalize their profits. In addition to being unconstitutional, it opens a path for money laundering, it harms competition, but on the other hand it also discourages the payment of taxes in the future.

We have asked the minister to make public a list of those whose debts are forgiven, but also of the fiscal peace agreements that will certainly be forthcoming and we have not had transparency. Under these conditions, we will demand that this law be withdrawn. If the law is not withdrawn, we have also prepared some amendments to try to limit the damage that this law causes, but this is one of the 17 laws that in this parliament are lobbied and sponsored laws and it seriously violates not only the integration process but also all the obligations for money laundering ," said Tabaku.
