Zelensky: We are considering the possibility of creating private armies in Ukraine

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said at a press conference that he may consider the possibility of creating private armies in Ukraine.

His comment came in response to one of the points in the latest Russian memorandum, which calls on Ukraine to eliminate nationalist formations and private military companies.

"Now I will start thinking about this after such ultimatums," Zelensky said.

Zelensky stressed that Ukraine currently has no private armed groups under its law, noting that if they are talking about 'Azov', it is the National Guard of Ukraine.

He compared Ukraine's military structure to Russia's use of private forces and mercenary groups like Wagner, highlighting the double standards.

"They (Russia) have 'Wagner' and this is true. They admit this, they admit that they have private military formations that we destroyed," Zelensky said.

According to a document released after the second round of talks with Ukraine, Russia's demands also include Ukraine's neutral status, a halt to the country's bid for NATO membership and other possible military action. /CNA
