NATO chief: No plans to withdraw US forces from Europe

Ukraine has been invited to the NATO Summit to be held in The Hague at the end of June, the Alliance's Secretary General, Mark Rutte, said today.

"I have invited Ukraine to the Summit. We will announce the program as soon as possible with more details," Rutte said. 

He did not specify whether Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has been personally invited.

The NATO Secretary General also announced that allies will expand their deterrence and defense capabilities by setting new and ambitious goals.

"These goals define what specific forces and capabilities each ally must provide to strengthen our deterrence and defense. Air and missile defense, long-range weapons, logistics and large ground maneuver formations are among our top priorities," Rutte added. 

Rutte also said that Washington is fully committed to NATO and that there are currently no plans to withdraw US forces from Europe./CNA
