NATO confirms invitation to Ukraine at June summit

The Defense Ministers of the Contact Group for Ukraine are discussing further support for it. Ukraine has also been invited to the NATO summit.

Due to the ongoing heavy fighting in Ukraine, the Ukraine Contact Group (UDCG) is meeting on Wednesday (June 4) at NATO headquarters in Brussels in the so-called Ramstein format. The invitation to the meeting was made by German Defense Minister Boris Pistorius and his British counterpart John Healey.

The topic of the talks will be further support for Ukraine in the fight against Russian aggression. Ukrainian Defense Minister Rustem Umyerov is also expected to attend the meeting. According to NATO diplomats, US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth will not attend the UDCG meeting, but will be present at the NATO defense ministers' meeting to be held on Thursday (June 5).

NATO confirms summit invitation for Ukraine

NATO announced that it has invited Ukraine to the meeting of heads of state and government of the Alliance to be held in late June in The Hague. The agenda of the summit will be published "at the appropriate time," a NATO representative told the AFP news agency. Ukraine's participation in the Hague summit has been the subject of much discussion recently. Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky attended the last two summits in Vilnius and Washington. But NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte has not recently made any clear statements about a possible invitation to Zelensky.
