The Palestinian teenager who was shot by Israeli troops after throwing a firebomb in the occupied West Bank last week died on Monday, the Palestinian Health Ministry announced.
This is the latest in a long line of incidents between Israelis and Palestinians in the West Bank over the past year.
The case comes after a bloody weekend, during which an immigrant killed a Palestinian man and a Palestinian gunman killed an Israeli security guard in Tel Aviv.
Palestine news agency Wafa reported that Ramzi Hamed was shot near the West Bank settlement of Ofra, close to his town of Silwad north of Ramallah.
Fathi Hamed, the boy's father, told The Associated Press that his son was shot last Wednesday morning after throwing firebombs at soldiers operating near Silwadi.
The Israeli military said it "appears" that Hamed had thrown the incendiary bombs in the direction of the settlement's gate. She provided security camera footage from what she said was the incident, in which a young man is seen getting out of a car and throwing a firebomb, then speeding away in a car after the explosion.
It is not clear how close to the security forces the explosion occurred, or when the teenager was shot.
Violence has risen markedly in the northern West Bank thanks to increased gun attacks by Palestinian groups on Israelis, near-daily arrests and raids by the Israeli military, and increasing attacks by Jewish extremists.
On Monday, the Israeli military said its troops arrested 17 Palestinians overnight in the West Bank. Israeli media reported that five of those arrested are suspected of participating in a clash with Israeli immigrants on Friday that left a Palestinian dead.
Israeli settlers attacked a Palestinian village in the West Bank on Friday. They burned the cars and shot at the Palestinians who threw stones at them. Two Israelis suspected of killing 19-year-old Palestinian Qusai Matan were taken into custody on Monday.
This escalation in fighting between Israelis and Palestinians is the worst in decades. More than 160 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire in the West Bank and east of Jerusalem, according to the Associated Press.
Israel says most of those killed were militants, but young people who protested by throwing stones during army raids, as well as innocent bystanders, were also killed.
At least 30 people have been killed in Palestinian attacks on Israelis so far this year.
Israel occupied the West Bank in the 1967 Middle East war, along with the Gaza Strip and east Jerusalem.
