An explosion at a port in northwestern Turkey on Monday injured at least 12 people, officials told local media.
The explosion at a grain warehouse in the port of Derince on the northern shore of the Gulf of Izmit raised plumes of thick smoke and dust.
An initial investigation showed that the explosion was caused by "compression of wheat dust during the transfer of wheat from a ship to the silo," said Seddar Yavuz, governor of Kocaeli province.
The explosion at the Turkish Wheat Board (TMO) site was still being investigated, he added.
Kocaeli Mayor Tahir Buyukakin said that three of the injured were hospitalized in serious condition. All personnel were accounted for./CNA.al
