Nigeria's airspace is closed/ due to the sanctions of the Economic

Nigeria's airspace was closed at midnight on Sunday, the day set by a group of African countries as a deadline for the coup's military leaders to abandon their bid to seize power and restore the elected president.

At the expiration of that deadline, Nigeria's airspace was closed due to the "threat of interference from neighboring countries," according to a video statement by Nigerian coup leader Colonel Major Amadou Abdramane.

The military coup in Nigeria began at the end of July. President Mohamed Bazoum is being guarded by members of the presidential guard, national institutions were closed and protesters from both sides took to the streets, including supporters of the president but also those supporting the coup.

But the coup leaders' actions were condemned by the United States and several Western countries, as well as the West African Group of Nations.

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), a regional bloc, warned that if the military junta did not step down, it could face possible military intervention and gave the coup leaders until Sunday to relinquish power.

France and the European Union also cut off financial aid to Nigeria after the coup./CNA.al
