Half-naked with a shaved head, the police find the woman trapped by her husband

After 12 years of captivity in a house in France, the police have discovered the woman and arrested her husband who was holding her, a German.

The woman, also German, was half-naked with her head shaved when she was found in a bedroom in the apartment, a French police source told AFP, the BBC reports.

Police said the bedroom where the woman was found was sealed off with metal wire at the residence in Forbach, near the German border.

The 55-year-old is being held under suspicion of kidnapping and other crimes.

The woman, who is 53, is believed to have had access to a phone and called police in Germany, who alerted their French colleagues, the source said.

After an examination, her health was described as "not good" by local prosecutor Olivier Glady.

German newspaper Bild interviewed neighbors who said the man told them his wife had cancer and was "screaming in pain because of her illness."

Alicia, a neighbor, told AFP that the lady never left the house. Although he heard screams, he thought they were caused by illness.

French media reports also said police found a diary-type notebook in the apartment, in which the man is believed to have kept a record of his actions, including when he gave his wife food./ CNA.al
