Trump honors veterans and fallen soldiers at Memorial Day ceremony

US President Donald Trump honored American soldiers who fell in combat at a ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, calling them "America's best and bravest."

A memorial service was held in Arlington, Virginia on Memorial Day to honor fallen American troops and commemorate their sacrifice. The ceremony was attended by US President Donald Trump, Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth.

The ceremony was held at Arlington National Cemetery, where more than 400,000 people, many of them soldiers, are buried.

Trump laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, a somber tradition for American presidents. The president paused after laying the wreath, then stepped back before being joined by Vance and Hegseth in a salute.

The US president then gave a speech in which he called American troops "great warriors," and singled out several families and relatives of the fallen soldiers to tell their stories.

"We simply honor their extraordinary legacy. We salute them in their eternal and everlasting glory. And we continue our relentless pursuit of America's destiny as we make our nation stronger, prouder, freer, and greater than ever before. Their bravery gave us the freest, greatest, and noblest republic that has ever existed on the face of the earth. A republic that I am restoring after four long and difficult years," Trump said. /CNA
