Shooting in Czech Republic/ 2 dead and 6 injured, including a mayor

Two people, including a gunman, were killed and six others were injured on Monday after several gunshots were fired in the town of Chribska, in the northern Czech Republic.

The shooting took place inside the town hall building in Chribska, a town of about 1,300 people near the German border. Police said the situation was quickly brought under control after officers arrived and the building was evacuated.

Among those with gunshot wounds were three civilians, including at least one woman in serious condition, and three police officers.

The mayor of Chribska was among the injured. Terrorism was ruled out as a motive for the shooting, with regional police citing relationship problems as a possible cause.

The gunman was illegally in possession of weapons and had two pistols and a rifle with him at the time of the attack. Police say the man shot himself.

Two patients were taken to Masaryk Hospital in Usti nad Labem with chest injuries, while four others were transported to a hospital in Decin, hospital officials said.

Interior Minister Lubomir Metnar traveled to Chribska immediately after the attack. Writing on social media, he said the gunman had been neutralized and confirmed there was no ongoing threat./CNA
