Serious rail accident in Spain/ Two trains collide, several casualties reported

A serious rail accident has occurred in Spain, where two high-speed trains collided. One of the trains had left Malaga and was traveling to Madrid when it derailed. Meanwhile, the other train, headed to Huelva and passing on an adjacent line, also derailed after the collision.

It is suspected that there were about 300 people on board the trains. Local media are reporting five passengers dead and many others injured. The death toll is expected to rise in the coming hours. Rescue teams have arrived at the scene and are working to free people believed to be still trapped on the train.

Rail services on the Madrid-Andalusia line have been suspended indefinitely. Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has reacted to the incident.

"The government is working with the rest of the relevant authorities and emergency services to assist passengers ," he wrote on the "X" platform.

Spanish Transport Minister Oscar Puente said in his response that he is closely following the situation. The causes that led to the serious incident are still unknown. /CNA
