Russia says it shot down 150 Ukrainian drones

Russia announced that its air defense forces tracked down and destroyed 158 drones, including two over Moscow and nine in the surrounding regions. 45 drones were launched over the Kursk region, an area where Ukrainian troops have penetrated in recent weeks. The Ukrainian incursion is the largest surprise attack on Russian soil since World War II.

Ukrainian drones have moved the war from the front lines to the heart of Russia. Since the beginning of this year, Ukraine has increased airstrikes on Russian territory, targeting refineries and oil distribution centers in order to weaken the Kremlin's attack.

Moscow Mayor Sergei Sobyanin said debris from one of the drones caused a fire at an oil refinery.

On Sunday, Russia's Defense Minister said Moscow had taken control of the towns of Pivnichne and Vimka in Russia's Donetsk region. The Associated Press cannot independently verify such a claim.

Meanwhile in Ukraine, the air force announced the downing of 8 out of 11 drones launched by Russia during the night.

One person was killed and four others were wounded by attacks in the Sumi region, local authorities announced, while in Khrakiv the governor of the region announced the injury of 10 other people as a result of Russian attacks./ Voa
