KFOR increases its presence on the bridge over the Iber

NATO's peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, has increased its presence at the main bridge over the Iber River on August 31.

On this bridge, which separates South Mitrovica, inhabited by Albanians, from the North, inhabited by a majority of Serbs, in addition to cars, a cordon of KFOR members was also seen earlier in the day. Then, this cord was pulled.

Radio Free Europe has asked KFOR why it has increased its presence on the bridge, but they have not returned an answer from this mission.

However, a member of the Italian KFOR forces at the Ibri bridge told the REL correspondent on the ground that, during today's day, "nothing special is expected" and that they are there "due to routine operations ".

The increased presence on this bridge comes a day after the Kosovo authorities closed five parallel Serbian municipalities in the north of Kosovo.

The action has been criticized by the international community, which has called on the Government of Kosovo not to undertake unilateral and uncoordinated actions.

The Kosovar executive has also recently faced criticism from the international community because he has expressed his intention to open the bridge over the Iber for vehicle traffic.

The United States, the European Union and KFOR have spoken out against opening the bridge now. KFOR and the EU have requested that this issue be addressed in the Brussels dialogue.

The NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo has also warned several times that it will not hesitate to act to respond to security-related developments.
