Russia attacks Kharkiv, 5 killed and 47 wounded

A Russian cluster bomb attack in the northeastern Ukrainian city of Kharkiv hit a residential building and a children's park, killing five people and wounding 47 others, officials said.

Mayor Ihor Terekhov announced on the Telegram platform that a child had been killed in the park. Three people were killed in the 12-story residential building, which caught fire as a result of the attack, he said.

About 20 people are in serious condition, according to regional governor Oleh Syniehubov. A part of the apartment building was burnt, while the upper floors of the building were still burning. Several cars parked in front of the building were also burnt.

Emergency services and rescue teams rushed to the scene to provide assistance to survivors. The body of a victim, covered with a carpet, lay on the ground in front of the building, surrounded by police forces.

Residents of all ages, some bloodied and disoriented, sat on park benches or stood nearby as first responders tended to their injuries.

Authorities did not provide details on how the fifth victim died as a result of the attacks, which hit four neighborhoods of the city.

Kharkiv has been the target of heavy Russian bombing since the beginning of the war, although in recent weeks the intensity of the attacks has decreased, possibly due to the surprise attack of Ukrainian forces in the Kursk region, in the interior of Russia./ Voa
