The Kosovo Post branch opens in North Mitrovica

Kosovo Post opened its first branch in North Mitrovica on Thursday.

Senior officials of the Government of Kosovo, the Minister of Economy, Artane Rizvanolli, and that of the Local Government Administration, Elbert Krasniqi, have participated in the opening of this branch, in the early hours of the morning.

Some activists and representatives of the political party, Serbian Democracy, have protested against the opening of this branch.

Minister Rizvanolli has said that the Kosovo Post aims to provide postal services to everyone, in all parts of Kosovo, and that the open point is the ninth to be opened in the north of the country.

"It is very important that this office was opened here today and the citizens of North Mitrovica now have the opportunity to visit this branch and perform all the services offered by this branch. There are postal and Telecom services", Minister Krasniqi told the media.

The opening of this branch comes after the closure of nine branches of the Post of Serbia in the north of Kosovo, after the information provided by the Regulatory Authority for Electronic and Postal Communications (ARKEP) that those branches were operating illegally in the territory of Kosovo.

The closure of these branches of the Serbian Post has been condemned by the United States and the European Union, and has been assessed as a unilateral step by the Kosovo authorities.

In the branches of this Post Office, citizens have received the aid that the state of Serbia allocates for them - pensions and allowances for children - and have been able to perform other postal services.

The Post of Kosovo operated as a business unit within the Telecom of Kosovo until 2021, when by decision of the Government of Kosovo it was established as a central public enterprise./REL
