More than 100 million people across the United States are facing extreme heat warnings Sunday. Cities in the eastern part of the United States are preparing for record temperatures as the heat wave, which creates dangerous conditions for people, has begun to spread to the western part of the country.

Baltimore and Philadelphia are expected to reach their record highs of 38C on Sunday, while temperatures are expected to soar to around 36C in states like Idaho, Montana and Wyoming, up to 5C above average for this time of year. . Extreme heat will then move into Nebraska and Kansas on Monday, the National Weather Service said.

Officials are warning of dangerous conditions in the Philadelphia region, where high levels of humidity in the air could raise the heat index to over 41 degrees Celsius, making it feel even hotter than the current temperature.

Temperatures have cooled in Ohio and New England, but the heat wave continues to stretch from Virginia to New York.

Climate change is driving dangerous heat waves across the Northern Hemisphere this week and will continue to bring dangerous weather for decades to come, according to studies.

The extreme heat is believed to have caused hundreds of deaths across Asia and Europe, including cities on four continents. More than a thousand Muslim believers have died during the Hajj, the annual pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, amid high temperatures this year./ VOA
