American General, Wesley Clark

The American general, Wesley Clark, was honored on Sunday in Pristina with the "Dr. Ibrahim Rugova" decoration by the Democratic League of Kosovo, LDK, for his role in the liberation of Kosovo.

Clark led the NATO air campaign against Serbian military targets in 1999.

The NATO offensive campaign, which lasted 11 weeks, was carried out to stop the violence of Serbian forces against Albanians in Kosovo.

The 1999 NATO bombings were NATO's second major combat operation, following the 1995 attacks on Bosnia and Herzegovina.

However, it was the first time that NATO - in its then 50-year history - used military force without the express approval of the UN Security Council.

NATO stopped the attacks after 78 days - namely on June 10, 1999 - or one day after the signing of the Kumanovo Agreement.

With this agreement, negotiated between NATO and Yugoslav military officials, Yugoslav forces have been withdrawn from Kosovo and an international peacekeeping force, led by NATO, has been created./ Rel
