The Minister of Interior, Besfort Lamallari, has reacted to the decision to commute the sentence of the perpetrator of the murder of officer Novruz Cenalia.

In his reaction, Lamallari states that this decision is deeply disturbing, describing the killing of the officer as an attack on the state and order.

Lamallari further says that such a decision risks sending the wrong message.

 

" The decision to commute the sentence against the perpetrator of the murder of a State Police employee is deeply concerning. Although we are not yet familiar with the full reasoning, the murder of 'Eagles' officer Novruz Cenalia was an open attack on the state itself and the legal order. Such an act not only hurts the family of the deceased and discourages colleagues in uniform, but risks giving a wrong message to anyone who dares to oppose the law and the rule of law. We respect the independence of the judiciary, but we expect justice to be strong and at the height of its responsibility towards citizens and those who protect order every day ," Lamallari writes.

 

We recall that yesterday, the Court of Appeal sentenced the alleged perpetrator of the murder of officer Novruz Cenalia to 35 years in prison.

The Fier court had sentenced him to life imprisonment, accused of murdering a police officer, illegal possession of weapons, and reckless driving.

We recall that in May 2024, AM shot and killed 28-year-old officer Novruz Cenalia, after the latter drew attention to him for driving at high speed. The incident occurred in the village of Baltëz, Fier./CNA
