Private hydroelectric power plants and photovoltaic plants have increased their share in domestic energy production, reaching 53.8 percent of its total.

Official data reported in the annual report of the Energy Regulatory Authority for 2025 underline that of the total net domestic electricity production realized for 2025, which is 7,467,589 MWh, at least 3,452,265 MWh was produced by KESH sh.a. and 4,015,324 MWh was produced by other power plants.

"The electricity production carried out by KESH sh.a. during 2025 constitutes 46.2% of the total electricity production in the country, marking a decrease of 9.5% compared to 2024, when this indicator was 55.7%.

On the other hand, production by other energy producers accounts for about 53.8% of total production in 2025, up from 44.3% in 2024," the report states.

What stands out is the growth of photovoltaics, which will actually account for 11 percent of total domestic production in 2025, up from 6.4% in 2024 and 1% in 2023.

This is actually the result of a series of plants with considerable installed capacity that are in production, starting from Karavastaja as an investment by Voltalia but also by a number of other local entities.

"The power plants are connected to both the electricity transmission network and the distribution network. The installed capacity of the power plants connected to the transmission network is about 2,905 MW and their net production has resulted in 6,402 GWh. The installed capacity of the power plants connected to the distribution network is about 570 MW and their net production has resulted in 1,065 GWh.

The installed capacity of photovoltaic plants for 2025 reaches 631.07 MW, constituting about 18% of the total capacity of power plants installed in the country, while the production realized by them is 832.3 GWh, representing 11% of the total domestic production for 2025. For 2025, a total of 52 photovoltaic power plants are estimated to be in production, with a progressive increase since 2020, where currently 42 of them have contracts for the sale and purchase of electricity with FTL sh.a.; 9 of them operate in the free market at an unregulated price," the report states./ Monitor.al
