MP denounces demolitions of buildings in Lezha: Putting 12 families on the

Democratic Party MP, Gjin Gjoni, has reacted to the intervention of the Lezha Municipality for the demolition of buildings behind the Cathedral, describing the situation as unacceptable and unjust.

According to Gjoni, the decision to evict 12 families, who have lived in those buildings for more than 35 years, from the middle of four streets constitutes a heartless act and contrary to the interests of citizens.

"What is happening in Lezha is unacceptable! The Municipality's decision to evict 12 families, who have lived for more than 35 years in the buildings behind the Cathedral, from the middle of four streets, is an unjust and heartless act.

We are not against public investments and the development of the city, on the contrary we support them. But development cannot be done by sacrificing the dignity and safety of citizens. Before any intervention, a fair and sustainable housing solution for these families should have been guaranteed.

The rental bonus offered is insufficient and does not give them any real guarantee for the future.

The Municipality of Lezha must immediately reflect and take responsibility, ensuring dignified housing for every affected family. Citizens cannot be treated as numbers!", emphasizes Gjin Gjoni./ CNA
