Hunting moratorium lifted/Armand Burri for CNA: Well-drafted draft law

The Ministry of Environment has released a draft law on hunting for public consultation. Hunters' associations in the country have welcomed the decision, which would end the over 10-year moratorium in the country.

In an interview with CNA, the president of the Tirana Hunters Association, Armand Burri, says that the draft law is good and provides a solution to the created impasse. 

" The Ministry of Environment has put forward a draft law for discussion which is very good and very well-formatted in relation to all international rules on hunting. In general, the law also deals with the transfer of competences from the Ministry of Environment to local government. This management will be carried out by local government with hunting associations, which will determine the season and the part in which the hunting activity will be carried out ," said Burri.
  

However, Burri says that the moratorium has not been implemented in Albania and illegal hunting has always been present. 
  

"The moratorium itself did not achieve its goal, because part of it was to increase the fauna, with this argument the moratorium was implemented, but on the contrary, a good part of the unlicensed hunters have practiced this activity. But the association, together with the federation, with the best specialists that we have, has achieved and we have consulted with the Ministry of Environment, regarding the drafting of the new draft law on hunting," said Burri.
  

The hunting moratorium law was passed in 2016 and will finally be repealed after about 10 years./ CNA
