This Thursday, a scientific symposium was held in Shkodra on the topic "The Border of Hope and Death 1944-1991 - Shkodra Facing the Past", in commemoration of the International Day of the Disappeared.

Present at the symposium were various figures, including those from politics in Albania.

The European Union Ambassador to Tirana, Silvio Gonzato, in his speech said that we should not forget the past so that the same mistakes are not repeated in the future and that the EU has supported Albania on the issue of missing persons and this support will continue.

Among other things, Gonzato said that confronting the past is not only the duty of institutions, but is a collective responsibility, adding that every time he has been to Spaç, he has been confronted with stories that have not yet received justice.

“European history has shown us that societies are closer to justice when they confront their dark past. Let us never forget the past, so that we do not repeat the same mistakes in the future. Since 2017, the European Union has supported Albania on the issue of missing persons, and we will continue to provide this support. Dealing with the past is not only the duty of institutions, but it is a collective responsibility. Every time I have been to Spaç, I have been faced with stories that have not yet received justice. These expectations must be met. We cannot allow ourselves to be remembered for them only when they are at their most critical point,” said Silvio Gonzato, EU Ambassador./CNA
