The Head of the Forest Management Sector, Orgest Cenolli, has shared details of the situation with the fire that broke out today in Miras, Devoll.

In a statement, Cenolli said the flames have spread to about 5 hectares of land.

According to Cenolli, several interventions have been carried out so far, but the flames have not been extinguished, creating a potential danger for the village of Sinicë.

"We were notified around 1:30 p.m. Together with the fire brigade and the Directorate of Services, we all came to help. The situation seems a little serious. We are all engaged in extinguishing the fire, we are on standby. We have also had interventions from residents of the area, who have helped extinguish the fire. The surface area so far may be about 5 ha, with black pine, oaks of the Qarr type. The situation is under control so far, but I believe it will last and the fire will be active until tomorrow.

We cannot say that the fire will be extinguished overnight. Due to the very rugged terrain, we and the firefighters have had a very difficult time intervening. The intervention has been done with makeshift equipment. We have tried every means, with bands, with fire retardants, but because the vegetation is very dense and the surface is covered with herbaceous vegetation, it is difficult to extinguish and open the bands that can prevent the fire. As far as we know so far, there is only one hearth, we cannot determine the origin of the hearth where the fire started, since it takes about 30 minutes to reach the hearth, due to the terrain.

"There is a risk, as the nearest village is Sinica and if the fire gets bigger, it could be dangerous, but I believe it will be extinguished by tomorrow," said Cenolli./CNA
