Pilot project against fires/ Devoll becomes the first municipality with early

A pilot project dedicated to preventing fires in forest areas was inaugurated today in the Devoll Municipality, an initiative that aims to modernize the method of monitoring and responding to emergencies.

The project was implemented by the "Dora Prindërore" Association, with the support of the Australian Embassy and the "Boorevit" company, while representatives of local institutions, international partners and the Devoll Police Commissariat participated in the activity.

The Mayor of Devoll praised the importance of the project, considering it a necessary step towards preventing fires and increasing safety in forests. According to him, this project should serve as an example for other similar investments, so that the focus is on prevention and not just on extinguishing fires.

"Today we inaugurate the pilot project of fire prevention, a project initiated by the "Dora Prindërore" Association with the support of the Australian Embassy and the "Boorevit" company, which enables the production of digital products that warn of smoke or wildfires. I feel honored and hope that this pilot project will serve as an indication to take the appropriate measures and that we become part of other projects because the time today is to prevent and not to try to extinguish or monitor forest fires," said Eduard Duro, Mayor of Devoll.

Australian Ambassador Julianne Cowley expressed her appreciation for the collaboration with the Devoll Municipality and the importance of this project in a territory that, like Australia, faces significant challenges from wildfires. She highlighted Australia's commitment to supporting technologies that help communities protect the environment and minimize risks to residents.

"I am very happy to be here today at the Municipality of Devoll for this very important day. We are happy to support this initiative. In Australia we have great challenges with forest fires and it is something we share, although we are very far from each other. For this we are invested in supporting you. We wish you the best of luck and we look forward to seeing how this technology will help protect this region and the people of Albania", said Cowley.

The representative of the technology company Gialluca Palomo explained that the system installed in Devoll is one of the most advanced in the world for preventing forest fires. He emphasized that modern sensors placed on the ground can identify small signals and transmit information in real time, positioning the Devoll Municipality as one of the first areas in the region to apply such sophisticated technology.

"This project represents the first implementation in Albania, with a highly advanced system in the field of forest fire prevention. It is an innovative technology that enables continuous monitoring directly inside the forest, through sensors that are extremely fast in identifying even the smallest signals that may indicate the start of a fire. Thanks to this technology, which is spreading rapidly around the world, effective prevention and response in almost real time are possible. Albania, and specifically the Municipality of Devoll, is thus positioned at the forefront in terms of forest fire protection, becoming among the first in the region to implement such a modern and reliable system", said Gialluca Palomo, CEO of Boorevit.

With this pilot project, Devolli aims to build a new model of forest security and protection management, combining technology with inter-institutional cooperation. The municipality hopes that the initiative will expand to other areas and become a sustainable practice for environmental and community protection. /CNA
