35 years since the reopening of the Plumb Mosque/ Communities: Politics should

As part of the 35th anniversary of the reopening of the Plumb Mosque, the Archbishop of Shkodra, Monsignor Giovani Peragine, was received on a special visit by the mufti of Shkodra, Imam Muhamed Sytari.

Mufti Sytari said that such meetings speak of religious harmony that must continue forever.

" As with the reopening of the church and the mosque, Muslims and Catholics have been together hand in hand. Without counting the dates but only the love for God and for each other. But above all for the liberation that this people has been thirsty for. The fact that the archbishop can visit the Lead Mosque is the best symbolism of what we are and should be ", said the mufti of Shkodra.

Archbishop Peragine stated that the Plumb Mosque is one of the objects of worship that proves what freedom means and that the liberation of faith is at the core of human dignity....

" It doesn't matter who opened it first or later, what's important is that we have won this liberation. It's something that we are equal in ," declared Monsignor Peragine.

The two clerics also commented on the draft law on gender equality, reiterating that they are against it and that they believe that Albanian politics will not betray the traditional Albanian base in favor of agendas that aim to degenerate the family and society.

" The joint interfaith declaration prevails over any other position, and I hope that the parliament and the political class have reflected properly and will not cut the bottom of this people's trust for the cynical interests of agendas that are not the agendas of Albanians ," declared Mufti Sytari.

" We are convinced that the family and man are created according to the will of God. I understand integration, politics, but we must be careful and maintain our rights. Albania has a hereditary identity, especially for the family, and politics must respect this ," said the Archbishop of Shkodra.

On November 4 and 11, 1990, the first two masses were held at the Rrmaj cemetery, and then on November 11, prayers were held at the Plumb mosque, paving the way for the restoration of freedom of religion in the country. /CNA
