As part of the Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Pink October, the Directorate of Social Services and Care in the Devoll Municipality held a sensitization activity, under the special care of the mayor, Eduard Duro. This activity aimed to convey the message that confronting this disease requires unity, support and love among women.

The Director of Social Services and Care, Zerina Sinani, stated that this is now an activity that has become a tradition, aiming not only at the symbolism of the color pink, but also at strengthening awareness of the importance of early diagnosis and support for women facing breast cancer.

"It has become a tradition that under the special care of the mayor, Mr. Eduard Duro, the Directorate of Social Services and Care organizes an awareness-raising activity within the framework of Pink October. This is an activity that not only requires us to wear pink, but we all need to come together to give voice, strength and support each other. It is an activity where the word 'support each other' makes more sense than ever and to give courage to those girls who are facing the most difficult days of their lives, a fight with breast cancer. We are gathered here today with all the women of the Devoll Municipality, with representatives of institutions and healthcare, and I have a special thank you to all my colleagues, my friends who have joined this cause today. We convey love, kindness and raise awareness among each of us. We really need to know that women's lives matter", said Sinani.

A touching moment of the event was the story of Eriketa Xhemo, a woman who won the battle with breast cancer after a long struggle with the disease. She shared her experience as an inspiring example for all women going through the same challenge, emphasizing the importance of courage, early diagnosis and solidarity.

"I went through this aggressive disease 16 years ago. I fought a very big fight with myself. I am the one who won life today. I wish that every woman catches it in time, because it must rely on three pillars: awareness, sensitization and diagnosis. Let us have courage, support each other, be united more than ever to win time, because our gift is the life itself that God has given us," said Xhemo. 

Students from the "Fuat Babani" school also participated in this activity, who, with banners and awareness-raising messages, conveyed the spirit of support and care for women. Nestila Berberi and Ester Çuko, part of this initiative, emphasized that every woman who faces the disease is not alone and that the support of society is essential to give her strength on this journey.

"Like every year, the 'Fuat Babani' school in collaboration with the Devoll Municipality organizes an activity dedicated to Pink October, the month of breast cancer awareness. I want to tell every woman that she is not alone and that their fight is also our fight. We students have brought banners and created different messages for mothers who are facing the fight against breast cancer," the students said. 

At the end of the activity, participants joined together in a symbolic moment to remember the importance of love, care, and awareness, with the message that every woman's life is valuable and must be protected at all costs. /CNA
