Maliq, 18 years of tradition with the Festival of Sweets and Agricultural

The 18th edition of the Festival of Sweets and Agricultural and Livestock Products was held in Maliq, an activity that for almost two decades has become a tradition for the residents of the area and an attraction for visitors.

The Mayor of Maliq, Gëzim Topçiu, stated that this celebration best reflects the diversity of field products and the work of housewives, farmers and livestock keepers of every administrative unit, from Libonik and Pojani, to Pirg, Gora and Moglica. He emphasized that from year to year the activity becomes richer, becoming a good opportunity to promote traditional products not only in the area, but also wider in Albania.

" 18 years, not a few, since the celebration of sweets and agricultural and livestock products opens its doors in Maliq. Every year better, every year more traditional products, of course products that withstand time but also gain new experiences from the places where immigrants work, but also all the people of Maliq who move from one city to another. I want to thank all the farmers of the Maliq field, the livestock farmers, the housewives of all the administrative units of Maliq, Libonik, Pojan, Pirg, Gore and Moglica who make this celebration so diverse that sometimes we are surprised by the products, the productions that this area has. Let this celebration be a visitable part for all citizens, tourists and of course these products be part of our products not only in our area but throughout Albania ", said Topçiu.

The participating housewives brought numerous traditional dishes, including lakrori in a basket and lakrori with spinach, but also popular desserts such as baklava, revania, halva, cake or freshly baked pancakes. They showed that this is a tradition that is passed down from generation to generation and brings great pleasure to the community every year.

The stands also featured other characteristic products such as petkat, sweet and sour trahana, dromka, pickles, peppers, corn and sugar beets. Equally present were traditional drinks such as thana, grape and plum brandy, Gora products with kulaci and pengjiri, as well as goat and sheep cheeses.

" Today is the day of the feast of sweets. We have always celebrated it every year. It is our tradition in Maliq and now we are making ready-made pancakes. We enjoy it every year and this feast is organized by the mayor Gëzim Topçiu ," said a housewife.

" As housewives, some of our traditional dishes are lakrori in a basket, lakrori with two spinach dumplings. We have brought traditional desserts such as baklava, revania, hallva, orange dumplings, cakes. A variety of different products such as pickles, peppers, corn, sugar beets, these are some of the vegetable products that characterize the municipality of Maliq. Winter supplies are petkat, sweet tërhana, sour tërhana, dromkat, and many others, " said another.

"We have different raki such as thane, grape, plum raki. We have vadhat which are agricultural products of the Gora area, thanat and traditional dishes such as kulaçi, pengjir, various sweets. Also different cheeses such as goat and sheep, from livestock products. These events help our area a lot to become known for the products it has, because it is a very touristic area ," declared a housewife.

According to participants, such activities greatly help promote the area and make Maliq more well-known as a tourist and culinary destination. The festival remains an opportunity to enjoy local products, preserve tradition and promote rural development./CNA
