New school year/ 300 fewer students in 9-year schools in Shkodra

About 300 fewer students will sit at school desks in the 9-year education system in Shkodra.

As we are only 4 days away from the start of the new school year, the director of the Local Education Office in Shkodra, Brisela Kadia, spoke about the preparations being made, where in addition to interventions in buildings and sports fields, students are being provided with free books.

"We have the "Ndre Mjeda" school completely reconstructed with all functions. We continue with the reconstruction of the "Kole Idromeno" school. There have been interventions in all other schools, mainly in some sports fields. In this school year, there are 87 educational institutions. The number of registrations is not very fluctuating, 11 thousand registrations last year and 10,800 registrations this year. In private education, we currently have 4,140 students, while last year there were 4,225 students. We still have registrations of students returning from emigration or others who have remained unregistered and this can be changed. In the first grades, we have over 800 students, while in the 10th grade, approximately 700. These are figures that can be changed to give all students the opportunity to follow the Albanian education system," said Kadia.

No schools will be closed, said Kadia, and teachers will not be affected by possible layoffs due to the decrease in student numbers.

"We do not have schools that are at risk of closing. If it is decided that a subordinate school will close, it will be done in cooperation with the community. A challenging year awaits us, such as the 'after-school' program in a more advanced program than so far. It is a challenging year because we need to maintain the results we have had and to maintain the expectations we have, and one challenge is the use of mobile phones in schools," said Kadia.

On Monday, as in the entire country, classes are expected to start in Shkodra in 87 educational institutions that are part of the local education office./CNA
