Lezha, fixed hours for waste disposal/ Municipality warns of punitive measures

The Municipality of Lezha has set fixed hours for throwing waste into containers. From 19:00 to 21:00 for citizens and from 20:00 to 22:00 for businesses. This decision by the Municipality of Lezha, which began to be implemented a few days ago, comes after repeated problems with the irresponsibility of citizens and businesses, who often throw waste outside of the designated hours and places, causing environmental pollution.

"Several problems have been identified, one of which is pollution in the city without a schedule, i.e. non-respect of schedules by citizens, but also by entities. Given that we are also at the peak of the summer season where the flow is higher, the Municipality of Lezha has thought of a plan to dispose of waste on schedules, separate for citizens and entities. The Municipality of Lezha has worked through its structures to make it possible to go out into the field and obtain signatures from each entity to make it possible to dispose of waste on a schedule as well as to remove the containers of each entity within the specified time", says Marku.

To monitor this process, security cameras have also been installed near several problematic points where the waste management situation often gets out of control. The Director of Public Services, Jurgen Marku, emphasizes that the biggest polluters are businesses and warns that there will be no more tolerance for lawbreakers who will face punitive measures.

"It has been noticed that there is a lot of waste being thrown away at the containers outside of the established times. The Municipality of Lezha has made it possible to install several cameras to make it possible to find out who the polluters are. The installation of these cameras has brought complete efficiency and within 24 hours several entities that pollute these environments have been identified. It turns out that the pollution is caused by the entities and not the citizens. The entities have been notified by the municipality about the installation of the cameras and have been advised to respect the schedules and rules of the municipality. The Municipality of Lezha has sanctioned several entities that are repeat offenders. The Municipality of Lezha will have zero tolerance for these polluters who violate the law and the established rules", - says Marku.

The issue of cleaning continues to be a sensitive issue, especially during the tourist season. Lezha aims to have another standard, starting with disciplining businesses and families./CNA
