The Catholic faithful of Shkodra have begun the celebrations of the feast of Our Lady of Shkodra, the protector and intercessor of the city. Solemn masses and street processions were held in all the churches.

In the framework of the jubilee year, the Catholic Church issued strong and direct messages for more births, love and tolerance. The Bishop of Sapa, His Excellency Simon Kulli, emphasized immigration as a scourge of society that is affecting the family.

" Today we dedicate to God those families who do not have the opportunity to enjoy family unity, because the parents work or are far from their hometown, and rarely have the opportunity to be together. And today our society is missing them. The family no longer resembles the holy family, but we have too little love between each other because technology has covered our hearts. Even a parent must honor his or her child. We cannot create life for anyone, but neither should we dare to take it from anyone. When God gives us children, we must care for their lives as if they were our own. It is part of the commandments to honor one's parents. Teach your children and yourself three main words, please, forgive me, and thank you ," said Bishop Simon Kulli.

This is not the first time that the Catholic Church in Albania has reacted to phenomena that are causing social drama in our country as well. The feast of Our Lady has been celebrated for years, where according to tradition, the icon of Our Lady of Shkodra was located in an old church in the city.

In the 15th century, during the Ottoman occupation, the holy figure is believed to have miraculously disappeared and appeared in Genazzano, Italy, where it is now housed in a famous shrine. For Catholic believers, this event became a symbol of the perseverance and eternal bond between Our Lady and the people of Shkodra./ CNA
