May 11th elections/ Himçi accuses: Police are hiding the facts of vote

Democratic Party MP Bledi Himçi, in a statement to the media, has accused the media of attempting to cover up voter fraud in the village of Pekisht, Peqin.

Himçi said that photos of identity cards, taken by the police themselves in a bar, are being hidden.

He further stated that the police are avoiding seizing the footage and examining it.

The purpose of this, according to Himçi, is to provide the lightest possible punishment for patronage activists.

" Following efforts to hide the electoral crimes that led to the May 11 electoral farce, and to continue as a party to the government, the State Police manipulates evidence and hides the facts.

In the press release regarding the management of evidence in a bar in the village of Pekisht, Peqin, the Police only talk about electoral materials, falsified according to them, leaving out some other criminal elements. The Elbasan Police hide the identity cards that they themselves have photographed on the bar's table. They also put the money that was found among the evidence, prepared to buy votes, into the socialist patron's wallet. The Police mention 280 thousand lek as part of the evidence, while it is about Albanian lek, euros and British pounds, as reflected in the photo accompanying the initial press release.

Also, the Police avoid a key element in the investigation, the seizure and examination of the bar's camera footage. It would have clearly shown whether the money was on the counter or in the wallet, and who entered and left the bar on May 10 and 11. The attempt is clear: to get the patron a sentence that is enough to skip the line for falsifying election materials, and to ignore the charges of vote buying, coercion with the aim of changing the electoral will, etc.

"This is the last service that the police provide to the gangs of power. It cannot be otherwise, as long as its directors are appointed by drug traffickers. We call on SPAK not to use the strength of the Task Force to publicize Kristian who has 'betrayed' Rama, playing with two goals, or to go all the way to Puka for an opposition official, but to deal with the real problem of the elections," said Himçi./ CNA
