The ODIHR report cannot be watered down as Ms. Kos did today.

DP MP Oerd Bylykbashi commented on the statement of Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos, who stated that the May 11 elections were free and fair.

According to Bylykbashi, Kos has no competence to expand or modify the ODIHR Final Report.

He stressed that the Commissioner for Enlargement must immediately withdraw the statement and suffice it to quote the OSCE-ODIHR report.

"The ODIHR report cannot be watered down as Ms. Kos did today. Enlargement Commissioner Ms. Marta Kos stated that the elections of 11 May 2025 "were free and fair". What is more serious is that she gave it as her own conclusion on behalf of the EU, not as a quote from the ODIHR.

The ODIHR in its Final Report stated in the first sentence that "the competitors did not have a level playing field."

Within the first paragraph, the ODIHR states that “the ruling party benefited from the extensive use of administrative resources during the campaign, creating an unfair advantage due to being in power.”

In no line of the final report, for no moment, does the ODIHR say that the elections were free and fair, as Ms. Kos says.

What the ODIHR said categorically is that the separation between the state and the ruling party has been broken. This is a violation of a fundamental principle, which creates an uneven playing field, so the elections are unfair.

Voters were pressured, says ODIHR. So the elections were not even free.

The head of the European Parliament delegation within the framework of the International Election Observation Mission, MEP Gahler, clearly underlined that organized crime hindered political rotation.

Since there hasn't been another report and the European Commission hasn't had its own observation mission, my question is: Has she read the ODIHR report and if so, where did the Enlargement Commissioner, Ms. Kos, read the phrase that "the elections were free and fair"?!

"Ms. Kos, as Enlargement Commissioner, has no authority to expand or even edit the ODIHR Final Report. She must immediately withdraw that statement. Next time, it is enough to just quote the ODIHR report," said Bylykbashi./ CNA
