The academic year of the College of Europe opens in Tirana/ Mogherini: It unites

This Friday, the 2025-2026 Academic Year of the College of Europe branch in Tirana officially opened.

Also present was the Rector of the College of Europe, Federica Mogherini.

In her speech during the event, Mogherini focused on the innovation of this higher education institution in Albania, as a good opportunity to unite the region through many young people, researchers and academics from various fields.

Mogherini emphasized that young professionals in these fields, enabling proximity to European integration.

"This is the official opening of the academic year, which I inaugurate today. This is the second group that we have in Tirana and it is transformative for the EC. We have 41 students, selected after a challenging process and I congratulate you all. There were 160 applicants and they were selected after many interviews. There is a gender balance. The average age is 26 years old. Every time we say that the College has opened a branch in Tirana, we tell them that they also come from the region. This is something that makes us happy. The idea that we came to Tirana was to bring countries that had not come to the region. 90% are here with scholarships or financial assistance. They are lecturers, academics or experts in different fields. This diversity also makes us enjoy the weather, because here it is raining while yesterday it was snowing in Brussels. We are all here together to make integration even more real. The criteria, the political will and the capacity of the institutions or even the technical ones must be met", said Mogherini. /CNA
