Rama: "Swamp scum" cannot stop Albania's development, on May 16

Prime Minister Edi Rama has reacted to the resolution adopted by the European People's Party this week, calling it a "swamp paper" and criticizing the way political party conferences function, where according to him, texts are approved without real debate.

In an interview with A2CNN, Rama stressed that Albania is much ahead of the perceptions that some are trying to create.

The socialist leader brought to attention the fact that on May 16, the Summit of the European Political Community will be held in Tirana, where all the prime ministers of the member states, the president of the European Commission and other EU leaders will participate.

"The fact that they are coming to Tirana to hold the European Political Community Summit speaks very clearly about what Albania is today," he declared.

Asked about the ongoing contested elections in the country, Rama referred to the 2013 elections, when the Socialist Party first won power.

"Those elections were not contested, because whoever organized them lost them and had nothing to contest. But as long as the swamp owl watches over the swamp, there will be no accepted elections in Albania," he said in an ironic tone.
