Minister Ulsi Manja from Korça told CNA TV that we need a new Penal Code, as this current one is old, while in recent years there has been a transformation of social and legal relations. 

According to the minister, the new Penal Code is a necessity that must be approved within this legislature. According to him, the New Penal Code also requires the vote of the opposition. 

"We need a New Penal Code because the Code we have in force was adopted in 1995 when they had the law on the main constitutional provisions. In 1998 we adopted the Constitution. Now this New Penal Code since 1995 has intervened in over 30 times, the time has come for us to have a new criminal code. The New Criminal Code is a necessity of these constitutional and legal changes but also a necessity of the transformation of social and legal relations. Some criminal offenses have lost their importance, but it is made it necessary for another part, criminal offenses or social behavior to be criminalized through a New Penal Code. The New Penal Code must be passed within this legislature. There is a draft of the new Penal Code by a group of professionals, it will be released for public consultation. It is a political-legal reform, we must have a new Penal Code that will stand the test of time, we will take the necessary time, this also requires the vote of the opposition," said Manja. / CNA
