Premiere of the documentary "Spaç 1973, Martyrs of Freedom"/

Today I had an invitation from the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the Nationwide Union for the Integration of Political Prisoners of Albania, to attend the premiere of the documentary "Spaç 1973, Martyrs of Freedom", dedicated to the anti-communist revolt of Spaç, by author Dr. Besim Ndregjoni.


I have been confronting myself for years to visit Spaç Prison and I have never gone. I have not felt ready to face a place where my late father spent twelve years of his youth, I am still not strong enough to walk on that ground without trembling with pain. 

As I watched the documentary, it became clear to me what we often try to hide deep in our souls.

Our class continues to remain politically condemned. Not only was an apology never sought, but we were not given the respect we deserved as descendants of those men who lost their lives in the galleries of Spaç.

Next to me was the honorable Mrs. Fatbardha Saraçi Mulleti, a researcher and writer, who, with a pen soaked in pain, has carved events and characters from the dictatorship camps, granting them eternity between the pages of her books.

I would like to thank Besim Ndregjoni for the invitation and for the tireless work he has done and continues to do with the group of politically persecuted, as well as the Foundation that stands by us and supports us in every organization.


Friends, Spaçi is not just a story to be told as a folktale, but a great wound that continues to drip pain. It is an unresolved score with time, with the system, with the government, with the dictatorship, which has extended the claws of evil even today.

Until this account is settled with dignity, with an apology, with the reconstruction and return of Spaç to a museum, with the finding and honoring of all those men and women whose remains have not been found and who do not have a grave, none of us can be truly free.
