Video-Violent protests in Cuba, Communist Party office attacked

A group of protesters attacked an office of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC) in the city of Morón, while authorities reportedly arrested five people. The demonstrations began peacefully, with demands for solutions to power outages and food shortages, but escalated overnight into acts of violence and looting.

Footage on social media shows protesters taking equipment and documents from the party building, which were then burned in the street. There are also reports of clashes with police, with one protester allegedly injured by gunfire, although the information remains unverified due to the internet outage in the area.

The protests come at a time of growing economic crisis, linked to fuel shortages and power outages, which have also prompted reactions in other cities such as Havana and Matanzas. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel called citizens' dissatisfaction understandable, but warned that violence would not be tolerated.

Cuban authorities blame the US energy blockade for the situation, while some officials suggest the protests may have been instigated by groups abroad. On the other hand, figures from the Cuban-American diaspora have expressed support for the protesters.

The energy crisis remains deep, as Cuba produces only a fraction of its oil needs, while the lack of imports has worsened the country's energy and fuel supply.
