White House: Oil tanker traffic in Strait of Hormuz returning to normal

Oil tankers are passing through the Strait of Hormuz and Iran's actions to block traffic through the maritime corridor have not harmed the US economy, White House economic adviser Kevin Hassett told US media outlet CNBC.

Hassett thus reiterates the Trump administration's position that the war should end within weeks, not months.

"We are very optimistic that this will be over within a short period of time and then there will be an impact on prices within a few weeks as the ships arrive at the refineries," the US official added.

Hassett also referred to the postponement of Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping, saying the US president wants to focus on the war in Iran. Hassett stressed that US action in Iran is in China's interest. /CNA
