"Bloomberg": NATO is considering strengthening missile defenses in

NATO is considering strengthening missile defenses in Turkey due to the war in Iran, according to sources cited by Bloomberg.

The alliance has already deployed a Patriot battery in eastern Turkey to protect an early warning radar used to track missiles across the Middle East. It is now considering sending another battery to bolster defenses at Incirlik Air Base, where US forces are stationed.

According to the same sources, a US AN/TPY-2 radar at Kurecik in eastern Turkey is likely the primary target of at least one of the missiles recently launched by Iran.

Another possible target was Turkey's Incirlik air base, which houses NATO forces, including hundreds of American troops.

NATO could deploy a PAC-3 missile system at Incirlik, where a Spanish PAC-2 system has been stationed for more than a decade, according to one of the sources. The PAC-2s are designed primarily to intercept fighter jets and cruise missiles and may not be effective against ballistic missiles.

NATO air defense systems in the eastern Mediterranean have so far intercepted three missiles launched by Iran.
