Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov has stated that Russia is ready to play a mediating role in the crisis that has gripped the Middle East and the war in Iran.

Lavrov made the statements after his meeting with the Kenyan Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, Musalia Mudavadi. 

"We are ready, as President Vladimir Putin has repeatedly stated, to play a mediating role in this political process, if necessary. We believe that we have the necessary capabilities ," Lavrov said.

Referring to the development of the crisis, the Russian minister noted that it is difficult to predict how the situation will develop.

"On the same day, a spokesman for the Israel Defense Forces stated: 'We still have a thousand targets ahead of us and we will continue to work on them at least until Passover,' that is, for at least another three weeks. It is difficult to predict the consequences of this crisis and how it can end, unless we immediately stop, come to our senses and start working on agreements that this time will not be broken," Lavrov said.


At the same time, the Russian Foreign Minister argued that Iran is acting defensively against the attacks it receives.

"Iran is defending itself and responding to aggression with attacks against the military infrastructure of countries that attacked democracy ," Lavrov said, adding that states in the Persian Gulf region are also affected by the tension. /CNA
