Iraq has reached an agreement with Iran to allow its oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, an Iraqi government minister told Al Jazeera.

Oil Minister Hayan Abdul-Ghani said talks were ongoing between the countries over the waterway, which Iran controls and has effectively blocked the passage of maritime traffic since the start of the war.

Meanwhile, a spokesman for Iran's energy commission said that the country's oil production and exports would continue without interruption. Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi also said that the Strait of Hormuz "is open, but closed to our enemies."

Recall that US President Donald Trump has called on US allies to do more to help open the Strait of Hormuz in recent days, as the decline in oil exports from the Gulf continues to affect global markets. /CNA
