Greece moves to ban social media access for children under 15

The Greek government will present a legal proposal within weeks to ban access to social media in Greece for children under 15. 

Mitsotakis said that the evidence is indisputable that this addiction of children and adolescents is harmful to their mental health.

"We need to face the platforms honestly and tell them something very simple: You are making enough money. You don't need to make money from our children and teenagers," Mitsotakis said. 

 

Other European Union members, France and Portugal, have already imposed a similar ban, while Spain is planning further action to limit social media use by young people.

Outside the EU, Australia was the first country to ban children under 16 from social media platforms, while the UK government is also planning to impose restrictions./CNA
