Ukraine agrees with Croatia on the use of ports for grain export

Ukraine and Croatia have agreed on the possibility of using Croatian ports on the Danube and the Adriatic Sea for the export of Ukrainian grain.

This is what Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba said on July 31, after the meeting with his Croatian counterpart.

Russia this month withdrew from the grain agreement brokered by the United Nations and Turkey.

This has made it impossible for Ukraine - a global grain producer - to safely export agricultural products from ports on the Black Sea as the war continues.

"Now we will work to build efficient roads in these ports and take advantage of this opportunity", said Kuleba after the meeting with Gërliq Radman in Kiev.

"Every contribution to unlocking export, every door that opens is a real and effective contribution to the food security of the world," he said.

Ukraine currently depends on exporting over land to the European Union, but on alternative routes via the Danube River.

Earlier this month, Russia – which launched its invasion of Ukraine in February 2022 – attacked infrastructure along a land route used to export Ukrainian products./ REL
