Oil workers in Kosovo oppose the Government's measures

The Association of Oil Workers of Kosovo has opposed the protective measures that the Government has established for oil products.

The head of this association, Fadil Berjani, tells Radio Evropa e Lire that the decision of July 28 of the Kosovo authorities was based on the inspection of some companies, which, according to him, "are abusing the price of oil", so Berjani, such decisions "they are damaging the whole sector".

On July 28, the Ministry of Industry, Enterprise and Trade (MINT) decided to set the ceiling price and other protective measures for oil products. According to this decision, the maximum allowed wholesale margin is 2 cents per liter, while the allowed ceiling for retail sale is 12 cents per liter. The decision will be in force for one month.

"This decision is harmful for businesses because with a margin of 12 cents per retail it is difficult to survive. I am asking the Prime Minister [of Kosovo, Albin] Kurti to cancel this wrong decision", says Berjani.

MINT said that the decision was made based on the monitoring of prices in the market of oil products, "the daily evidence received by the Customs of Kosovo, as well as the daily reports from the Market Inspectorate, regarding the wholesale and retail prices of oil products of oil, in which case an increase in prices has been recorded which is not reflected by price movements in the world market."

However, Berjani said that if there are companies that "manipulate and abuse prices to the detriment of citizens, then the relevant bodies should deal with them and not damage companies that are correct in serving citizens and with real prices".

He warned that for the latest decision of the MINT, the Association of Oil Workers will turn to the judicial authorities.

Currently, the average price of a liter of diesel in Kosovo is 1.45 euros./ REL
