Drone attack in Moscow temporarily closes Vnukovo Airport

Russia has accused Ukraine of a drone attack in Moscow, as a result of which two buildings were damaged and one of the city's airports was almost closed.

The flights planned for Vnukovo Airport were then redirected to other airports.

The drone crashed in the Odintsovo region, west of the city center, and two others were neutralized but crashed into buildings, the Russian Defense Ministry said.

The ministry described the act as an "attempted terrorist attack", which was "blocked".

The state news agency TASS said that one person was injured.

Ukrainian officials have not claimed involvement in the incident and rarely claim responsibility for attacks inside Russia.

The mayor of Moscow, Sergei Sobyanin, said that the facades of the two buildings were significantly damaged.

Moscow, a city about 500 kilometers from the border with Ukraine, has rarely been the target of attacks since Russia launched its war against Ukraine in February 2022.

However, Russia has accused Ukraine of launching a multitude of drone attacks on its territory in recent months, including some in the capital./ REL
