The military leaders of the coup in Nigeria have warned regional and Western powers against any military intervention to restore the ousted president, Mohamed Bazoum.

Through a statement, they said that the regional body Ecowas is preparing to approve "a plan of aggression against Niger".

This bloc of West African nations has not commented on the claims, but said it met to discuss the coup, which it condemned.

Meanwhile, hundreds of supporters of the coup have protested outside the French Embassy in Naime, after France - which once had Niger as a colony - stopped aid.

Some of them shouted "Long live Russia", Long live Putin" and "Down with France", AFP news agency reported.

This coup has raised concerns that Nigeria may be aligned with Russia.

Neighboring countries Burkina Faso and Mali have become closer to Russia since the coups that took place in their territories.

A day ago, the United States offered full support to the ousted president Mohamed Bazoum, while the European Union suspended cooperation with this country in the field of security./ REL
