Tierra Caliente of the state of Mexico has seen one of the most horrific events ever.

As a result of a confrontation between civilians and members of the Familia Michoacana, at least 14 people have died, four have received gunshot wounds, while 2 others are missing.

Of the dead, 11 allegedly belonged to La Familia Michoacana while the other three were residents of the community.

The local press attributed the clash to a conflict over land rights, a common practice of organized crime that extorts businesses or landowners to pay some kind of illegal tax in exchange for the opportunity to carry out their activities.

The members of this community are used to living among the extortions of organized crime and the threat of bullets
