Prime Minister Edi Rama has conducted an interview with the British daily Financial Times (FT).
During this interview, Rama spoke about the situation in the north of Kosovo.
This time he also stated that NATO should restore control of the north of Kosovo and called on Western leaders to resolve the 'endless madness' between the Balkan countries.
Part of the interview published by the Financial Times:
"NATO must restore control of northern Kosovo or face continued violence between ethnic Serbs and Albanians in the region," the Albanian prime minister told FT.
Rama, whose country is a member of the NATO alliance, spoke to the Financial Times after clashes in the northern Kosovo village of Banjska in which at least four people were killed, including a Kosovo policeman.
"Kosovo is a hot spot. It has become over the years a no man's land where all kinds of crimes combine with growing nationalism. The border between crime and politics has faded," said Rama.
NATO said it would deploy as many peacekeeping troops as needed to stabilize the situation, with Germany and the United Kingdom already pledging hundreds of soldiers on top of the existing 4,500-strong force to keep the region under control, the British daily noted. , adding that the leaders of Kosovo and Serbia have also called on NATO to increase its presence and calm tensions.
Rama advocated for a "high-level conference" involving the leaders of France and Germany and US re-engagement.
"This is the best [way] to get out of this endless madness," said the Albanian leader who had already drawn attention to the worsening security situation in Kosovo during a NATO summit in July.
