"We have defeated and destroyed them"/ Trump: The war with Iran is

US President Donald Trump, in a statement regarding the military offensive in Iran, said that the US was close to ending the war in Iran, adding that Washington's main strategic objectives in the war were nearing completion.

"I am pleased to say that these essential strategic objectives are nearing completion," Trump said. He added that the US would continue to strike targets in the Islamic Republic over the next two to three weeks.

"We're going to get the job done, and we're going to get it done very quickly. We're getting very close ," Trump said. 

Trump also spoke about the Strait of Hormuz, saying that the US imports almost no oil through the Strait of Hormuz and will not receive any in the future.

"We don't need it. We didn't need it and we don't need it. We have defeated and completely destroyed Iran. And the countries of the world that get oil through the Strait of Hormuz should take care of that passage. They should value it. They should seize it and value it ," Trump said.

He further spoke about the economic crisis caused by the war, saying that Iran should be blamed for the increase in oil prices.

"The increase is entirely the result of the Iranian regime's deranged terrorist attacks on commercial oil tankers and neighboring countries that have nothing to do with the conflict ," the US president said.

Rising fuel prices throughout the conflict have also caused hardship in other countries, for example, in the Philippines, which became the first country to declare a national energy emergency last week. The European Commission also took note of the pressure on energy resources, telling people a day earlier to work from home or fly less, with the EU energy chief calling on member states to double their renewable energy. /CNA
