"It will end in two or three weeks"/ Iran on Trump's statements:

Iran is prepared for at least six months of war, the country's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi has said, while US President Donald Trump said the US would leave Iran "very soon" and that the US military action could end within two or three weeks.

"We do not set any deadlines for defending ourselves. We will defend our country and our people for as long as necessary and by any means necessary ," Abbas Araghchi said in an interview with Al Jazeera.

"It doesn't matter what timelines our enemies set for themselves. However, our recommendation is that they bring this war to a complete and permanent end before they face further damage ," he said, noting that an end to the war must include peace throughout the region.

Araghchi said Tehran is not in direct negotiations with Washington, despite Trump's claims that the US is in serious discussions with a "new and more reasonable regime" in Iran.

"Negotiations are when two countries engage in talks to reach an agreement, and such a thing does not exist between us and the United States ," Araghchi said.

However, the Iranian minister said he had received messages from Steve Witkoff, the US envoy to the Middle East, and that the US and Iran had been communicating indirectly through intermediaries.

Araghchi said Iran has not responded to the 15-point proposal from the US, contradicting Trump's claims on Sunday that Tehran had agreed to "most" of the list of demands the US put forward to end the war. An Iranian spokesman on Monday sharply criticized the demands as "largely excessive, unrealistic and unreasonable."

"The American president must fundamentally change his approach. You cannot speak to the Iranian people with the language of threats and deadlines," Araghchi said. /CNA
